Adding asset ID to asset Web Path

Hi all,

We at Aspermont UK publish a range of online publications, and, as ever, the aim is to get this content syndicated and referenced as much as possible out on the web.

Google have advised us that in order to ensure syndication through the Google News service we must have at least five digits in the url for each article. Using each article's asset ID for this purpose would make perfect sense.

So here's the query - as there doesn't seem to be a global configuration option to add the asset ID to the URL on asset creation, can anyone suggest a method of automatically appending the asset ID to a URL?

Currently: http://www.mining-journal.com/production-and-markets/gem-diamonds-unveils-196ct-white-diamond

What we'd like: http://www.mining-journal.com/production-and-markets/gem-diamonds-unveils-196ct-white-diamond/233336

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you could do this with a trigger and the "Set web path" action. I remember we recently enhanced this trigger action to accept keywords and to add a checkbox that allows you to remove all existing web paths too.

Eg. Setting the web path to "%asset_assetid%" (and removing all existing ones) would do exactly what you're describing. Or even just appending the asset ID to the end might be possible - eg.: "%asset_url%-%asset_assetid%".

Not sure what Matrix version the trigger went into though…
