Adding front-end user with edit permissions

I am for the first time trying to add additional users to our system to test out how they work.

I want to add a user that will be editing pages through the simple edit interface. So, I added a standard user, and gave them write permissions to the 2 pages they should be able to edit. But it seems they still do not have permission. Do they need to be a backend user? And if so, how can I limit the asset map to only see their pages they are allowed to edit?

Correct – anyone who needs to edit (either via Admin Interface or Simple Interface) needs to be a Backend User or higher.

Put them in a User Group and set the Preferences for the group to Teleport the root node of the asset map to their section. Make sure they have at least Read permission all the way down, though (so that they can SEE their section!).

Do you mean the Asset Map Root Asset under the group preferences screen?

That's the one

The permissions are working correctly, but when that user logs into Matrix then can still see everything else on the structure tree even though I set the root node to be further down in the hierarchy. Is something else needed to only show the levels and pages that the user is allowed, and remove the others from view?

So is the asset map not teleporting to their root node? Check to make sure that the users have at least read access to every asset down the tree down to that node, so that the asset map can successfully switch the root.

Also, we don't (currently) hide anything from the asset map. If the user has no access to an asset, they will see a red cross over it. If they only have read access to an asset, they will see it in the asset map, but will be unable to lock it (and thus cannot make changes to it).
