Alternate WYSIWYG editors in future?

Hello,
The current WYSIWYG editor is ok for most things, it’s not exactly a word processor in a browser though. I guess that has it’s pro’s and cons. Anyway, I was wondering if there was any work underway evaluating alternate editors. When I was looking into Mambo, one of the editors that looked very cool was:

A very full featured editor, that the mambo devs were able to incorporate into their product via a mambot, so I imagine it would be feasible that it could be used in Matrix as well.

Choice is always a good thing, so any thoughts on whether in the future we’ll have a choice of alternate editors?

Cheers

Dale

There are no plans at the moment, but the system is strucutre in a way that would allow this. We could create additional content_type assets that define our editing interafaces (WYSIWYG, Raw HTML, Nest Content at the moment).

The biggest issue would be allowing the asset map to be used to select links and images, which means more development time.

I'm inclined to agree with Dale - the HTMLArea editor is great but is kinda odd in some ways

  • Graphics, personally I like the grey buttons, but users tend to like the m$ applicationesque look of things like word because it's something they are familiar with and can instantly relate to
  • the editing area would be good if it was a clearly defined textarea - at the moment it has a dashed line around it, I guess it just dioesn't feel "solid"

Otherwise great especially where embedding image assets

Just a couple of pennys worth
