I've edited this post, because my gripe about the asset map seeming slow must have been due to a connection problem, and now that we've had a chance to use the system, it really is great.
Just getting to grips with the design aspect - subfolders seem to be appearing in my navigation structure, but it all works well, and given a couple of days, we'll have a proper test site up and running.
