Hi,
I am trying to create a set of asset lists pages whereby
each one lists the documents contained in a specific topic folder and another higher asset listing gives me all these lists. On each page there is also a breadcrumb that is supposed to show position of the document within the site, however in this case, once I click on the file, the breadcrumb shows the position relative to the folders rather than to the asset listings.
Is there a way to specify the hierarchy of a file within the structure of the site so that the parent nodes are asset listings rather than the folders that they exist in or do I have to make these assets to be children of the asset listing file?
I'm not sure I'm following: Are you trying to create a hierarchy of asset listings, each listing its children?
If so, the easiest way to achieve this is via Folder assets and Paint Layouts. Essentially, you apply a paint layout to the folders and the paint layout nests an asset listing that sets its root node to the current asset. Thus, each folder is displayed as if it were an asset listing.
I think what you are asking for is a heighrarchy for the asset based on the asset listing page that lists it even though the asset being listed exists at another location. The asset listing works like the search asset so there is no heighrarchy to create a link to so you would have to create a link under the asset listing or follow the advice that Avi gave.
I have created an asset listing to do kind of what you are talking about but it is only suited to listings that aren't going to grow dynamically. What I did was create a listing that only listed one asset at a time and showed the full content in the listing. On the initial screen I manually created the listing with the url as, path_to_asset_listing/list?result_page=1 (where 1 is the page number of each asset in the list). When the link is fired you get the contents of the listed page in context of the listing asset. I have not tried this with files though but i suspect that the only way to get a url that would stay within context of the listing would be to construct a url using the asset id of the file, path_to_asset_listing/?a=asset_id
Hope this is all useful
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. I managed to get what I was looking for by treating the asset listing as if it were the folder in question and then setting it to just list it's children.
It seems to work the way I want it except it does mean that everywhere that I previously had assets listings of folders and didn't realise that the breadcrumbs weren't working I have to now move them to be children of the asset listing instead.
Thanks again.
If you use Paint Layouts, you can get Folder Assets to paint like Asset Listings (which means you only have a single asset listing to manage). And, creating new folders is much simpler than creating new asset listings.
Hi Avi,
Got that working and seems to be going fine and dandy now. It was a little tricky getting the dynamic linking on the Asset Listing working until I found out that even though you're not going to use a static root node you still have to supply one (I just gave it the root node for the entire site).
Anyway, I still have a few days of work ahead of me in the future to move around loads of the content so that it appears better in the breadcrumbs but at least if you click on a folder link now it will list the assets rather than giving a blank page.
Thanks for all your help.
Huzzah. Glad its working for you!
Calford mentioned that he had to move around loads of content. I also have to do this, and am wondering if it is possible to select more than one asset at a time and move it? Such as move the entire contents of a folder to another location? Or do I have to move everything one by one?

Yes, it is (which is why there are two tabs on the asset map). Double click each tab, which will pop the asset maps out of their frames. Then, you can either shift-click to select a sequential sequence of assets or ctrl-click to select specific assets and drag them to a new location. Once you’ve started the drag, you’ll get the same targetting line as you would for a single asset. I find it easier to target the new parent by getting the box around the new parent asset.
