I'm a bit stumped coz I can't reproduce it.
One of my user created an asset listing: listing folder, redirect, std page and pdf.
Max depth 2, direct links only No, type 1 and 2, all statuses.
The structure is as follow:

|---redirect1
|--- pdf1
|--- std page1
|---redirect2
|--- std page2
|--- std page3Custom grouping is used: the grouping used is Parent Asset, redirect and folder.
The issue: items are being listed in the correct group as well as in one other group. Not all and not consistently but they are a lot.
I first thought it may be some hidden link somewhere and checked the linking screens of the duplicated items. There is a notice indicating there is a link (in the std page content) in another item in the group where the duplicated item is duplicated (Have I lost you yet? :huh: ). Reproducing this though didn't work and I think it's a red herring.
Short of anybody encountering exactly the same problem, I'm not sure it's going to be easy to debug this. As I said, i tried to reproduce it and failed.
Given that there was quite a bit of moving assets around, could it be that there are some orphan links which are picked up by the Asset listing but not by the asset map nor the links screen?
Any other reason I should explore for an asset listing to list items in groups when they are not in that group?
