Asset Map in OS X

I think this topic has come up before, but I could not find the thread…

Does anyone use a Mac like me, have problems with the asset map taking FOREVER to load? On a new site I am building it takes about 3 minutes or more to load the asset map. I loaded up VM Ware Fusion to see how fast it loaded on IE7 and it was almost instant. It is a sad day when something works better in IE!

Do any of you Squiz guys who use Mac have this issue? I am running an Intel, 10.5.6 and using Safari.

100% same issue as Nic. Thought it was my installation though…

Everyone has problems with the asset map on OS X.

Try:

  • Clearing your browser cache and Java cache
  • Using a different URL to log into the Admin Interface for that session
  • Try a different browser

Unfortunately it is quite frustrating. I wish we could rebuild the asset map in JavaScript, but it's a lot of work and I doubt it'll happen without client funding.

It is.

Apple's Java implementation is rather poor - it mixes Carbon and Cocoa APIs in the version that you can run in the browser (which is why there are rendering issues) - thats against their own guidelines. Apple do the port to Mac OS, not Sun.

There is now a full 64 bit Java release, which should be better (for various reasons), but there is not yet a 64 bit browser you can run it in. Both webkit and firefox are working towards 64 bit ports on Mac OS, but neither are out yet... I am hoping that will improve things.

Wait, what's that? Apple is not perfect in every way? This is sacrilegious talk! ;)' /> <img src='http://forums.matrix.squiz.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D

Ha! I know, I just about cried when IE7 loaded the asset map in 2 seconds. :)

Yeah, it really sucks about the asset map, I loose productivity because of it. It is sad to say, but I think I might start using Firefox in Windows to Manage Matrix. Man, I wish I had not just said that....:(

I have a suggestion: why don’t you run your matrix installation with ie6 on a Dell with Vista Home Edition.’ /> <img src=‘http://forums.matrix.squiz.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif’ class=‘bbc_emoticon’ alt=’

Very funny. I already feel guilty that I have XP installed on VM Ware on my iMac! But, that is what happens when you are in the web business and most people use PC's.

Better yet, I think I should run IE5.5, that is a personal favorite of mine!

The really strange thing is the corporate environment here is IE6 on XP and it is damn slow for our uncached dev machine.

Started using Safari on XPand it is stunningly faster, at least 50% in not 67% faster rendering the front end and backend page.
