With a bog standard Asset Listing (AL) page, the default sort order is the order the assets are listed in the asset map. This is good.
If I create a grouping on the asset page, I don't seem to have a way to sort by the order in the asset map. What am I missing?
Background: AL contains folders, each folder contains PDFs. The order required is arbitrary ie does not match the filename or title of the PDF. Hence the desire to sort manually in the asset map.
thanks, martin
Nothing. Once Matrix has to list assets from more than one level, it can no longer list by asset map order (because there is only order at a single level). So, the only time an Asset Listing can ever match the asset map order is when "Direct Links" is set to "Yes". You will have to use an alternative sort method. If you need to control sorting completely, I usually recommend a metadata field for sort order. Then you can add numeric values to that and get Matrix to sort ascending on the field.
Thanks Avi. Had my fingers crossed that I could avoid metadata. Ah well
You could evaluate other sorting methods as well. Something that sometimes works pretty well is sorting on Created Date so it displays items in the order they were created (then play with ascending/descending to get oldest or newest first). The same works on asset ID, but you can't change that value manually like you can with Created Date.
