I am trying to visualize how I will allow my users to create pages. Is there an easier way for users to create new pages, without having them be a backend users? It would be nice to have a dialog, such as in the WYSIWIG editor, when you add an image. The asset map would pop up, and then you could add a new page through that interface. Is this possible?
I just don't really want to make all users backend users, but I want for them to be able to create new pages if they need to.
Also, if I DO have to have them as backend users, is if possible to limit what they see in the asset map when they log in? Such as only the part of the tree that they are allowed to edit? This would be a great feature.
Thanks.
You can use the Asset Builder to allow non-backend users to create assets. However, if they are not backend users, they will be unable to edit the page once they've created it.
Remember, users need to be a backend user to use either of the two editing interfaces (the Administration Interface and the Simple Edit interface).
And yes, from v3.10 and higher, you can set a teleport root per user group, so that when a user logs into Matrix, they only see the asset map from that teleport root (by default).
How would I set a teleport root for a user group?
Right-click the User Group asset and select "Preferences" – then customise the "Asset Map Root Node" option.

How would this scenario work, if you need them to have access to the root of their site, plus media folder for binary files?

You can link the Media Folder inside the Site to which you assign the Root Node for the Group.

Ahhhh the hipo overheads hehehehehe
Problem with this is that they can just click the "Restore the root folder" button and see the whole site.
Correct, but permissions/workflow would prevent them from making actual changes, even though they can see the entire site.
