Best event listing solution

Hi all, I am after pros and cons

We have a calendar of events setup on our website with calendar module it works great we have broad classification via metadata, example at

http://www.parracity.nsw.gov.au/culture__and__leisure/whats_on

There are few other sections of our site that are specific areas of interest like library or Heritage Centre, Community section and so on, because allot of our users come to our website via direct bookmark to those areas we have a need of displaying these events on they pages. The issue is that we classify events by type not by where they are held.

There are 2 solutions that I can see both will work, however which one is better is my question to you

Solution 1: At event creation time (currently in admin interface soon moving to asset builder) create a link under an asset list/calendar page in a specific section to display events that happening at that section (note: this is not a venue)

(Good: easy to do. Bad: unable to breakdown events further [workshop, school holiday, talks…])

Solution 2: Use Thesaurus / Related asset listing

(Good: enable further event breakdown, no need for extra linking. Bad: can’t use calendar page, loose date based navigation, harder to explain to users at creation time which keywords to pick and why)

Your thoughts are appreciated

Hrm, no one?

I'd pick 1. It is possible to have an asset builder provide a series of user-selectable create locations. If you had calendar pages for each venue and for each kind of event, an event could be linked under both appropriate pages.

Thanks for your feedback. I almost gave up hope for an answer

In the end we decided to have a bit of both.
