Browser and Java Problems?

We're finding problems with both Internet Explorer and Mozilla at the moment. I'm wondering how many other people are having problems and whether they've managed to narrow them down to specific versions of browsers, Sun Java or some other issue.

The specific problems we're having is that Internet Explorer will freeze up for a period of time and Mozilla will just crash totally.

So is anybody else not having these problems at all and if so what precisely are they using.

Cheers,

Adam

There are bugs in the bug tracker about these issues. Currently, the problems only occur on windows and not linux, so we are unsure if the problem lies within the Sun JVM (as we are using the blackdown version on linux) or within the browser itself.

This is covered in a stickypost in the Support forum.

There's issues in linux also. I'm running the recommended Firefox/blackdown combo on FC2 here and also Mozilla/Java™ Plug-in 1.4.2_04-b05. Both are iffy. It's at the point where I'll run _admin in one browser and test in the other so that when the _admin crashes it doesn't take all my other tabbed screens with it.

This is not what he is talking about.

The problems in question relate to the following bugs.

I don't know the exact cause of the crashes here but I know they occur when doing things in the AM.

You said "the problems only occur on windows and not linux". I disagree. 20-30 browser restarts a day says the AM does have some some problems on linux.

Others may not have this issue. What we need to do is record the differences between the stable people and those like me. Find out if there's any common thread in the various configs that tend to crash so we can avoid that situation.

For example, I'm running the same version of Firefox and Blackdown that I was told the dev team were using. possible differences include;

I'm running it from my home directory.

I have /home/gold/apps/firefox linked to /home/gold/apps/firefox.0.9.3 and start it through kicker via the linked path.

I have the following extentions installed;

DomInspector, ChatZilla, ReloadEvery, Cutemenus, Firesomething, Sage, EditCSS, BBCode, CookieCuller, MAB, DeepestSender

I don't know how any of this could effect anything but you never know…
