Calendar Page, Month View Heading Format

I've created a Calendar Page and made the month view to be the initial view.

I've then made the Day Heading Format to be 'D' so that it should show Mon Tue Wed etc, like so:

However a commit and _nocache still show it with the full days:

Any ideas (on 3.16.2)

edit: it does not matter what I enter in the Day Heading Format box or even if I leave it blank the full day of the week is show.

edit2: when locks are released in the backend the correct format is shown but again the front end still shows the full day

I suspec that the "Day Heading Format" is used when the Calendar is in Day View mode.

The "Day Heading Format" can only be displayed in the Month View when the month view is displayed with day headings.

This can be configured by setting the Month View to "List with Day Headings" from the "Overall Presentation Settings" section on the "Details" screen.

I tried this but then the calendar is not show in a grid format but as a list of days - I guess I could correct via CSS but I hacked the calendar asset as it was quicker.

I also removed the linking of the dates in the asset file as there is no way of doing this in the backend. This finally gave me what I wanted which is a simple grid month and events show as colours:

Rolling over the coloured square displays the event:

So all is good - well not quite!

The rollover displays the description field of the Single Calendar, which is the whole even details. It would be nice if the Single Calendar event had an extra editable area to just put a summary of the event in which is then shown in the pop-up, as if we have 15 events thats a lot of stuff to load. To view the full event details the user clicks on the coloured square and gets taken to the full page.

So how can I do this?

Why not just use metadata for this?

Tried that. The rollover does not display the metadata just the tag!
