I was wondering, if I set up my entire site, and had a standard page as a parent, and 50 child standard pages under that parent. If later decided that the parent needed to be a custom form asset, or asset listing, what would I do? I could not just delete the parent, because where would the children go, and it would mess up my structure. How could I change this asset to something else?
The easiest thing to do is to create the new asset at the same level as the current parent and then mass move all the children under that new asset. You can select multiple assets in the asset map by using the shift and ctrl keys.
But would there be someway for me to assign the same asset id to that new asset, after the old one is deleted, because I am sure this would mess up links.

No there isn’t. You would have to fix all the links yourself.
Alternatively, if you have a standard page, you could just nest the content from another asset into it (like the custom form or asset listing you would’ve replaced it with).
