Cloning a Page Asset Listing

I have created a page asset listing which has the exact layout i want in several places so i was hoping just to clone this asset to each place i want to use it. But for some reason i get a Clone Assets HIPO Error Report whne trying to clone it under a standard page. It says: -

WARNING: Assets of Type "page_asset_listing" cannot be "NOTICE" linked to a "page_standard"

Reported 1st Mar 2005 7:46am

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING: Clone failed for Asset Id #327

Reported 1st Mar 2005 7:46am

But i can add a new Page Asset Listing under the standard page no problem.

Any idea's??

I asked in the other thread, but I'll ask here again: What version of Matrix are you running? Also, is it possible to get external access to this installation? I can't promise hands-on time in the near future (I'm onsite at a client for a few days), but it will help for future debugging/troubleshooting.

Well it says at the bottom of the Navigation 3.2.1.

It could be possible but i will need to speak to our Admin person to sort it out.

I don't have a v3.2.1 installation handy to test this on. Are you guys able to upgrade to v3.2.2? I have a stable installation of that, so its easier to troubleshoot.

Do i just download the patch and then install it using the insall patch feature as the root user??

I don't need to bounce the box or anything??

Yup, that's all you need to do (assuming the permissions are correct – i.e. that Apache can add/replace files as necessary).

If you want to reuse the layout, you might be better off sharing the DIV assets around rather than cloning. Depends what you want to do though. Sharing content means that if you change the format of one asset listing you will change the format of all of them.

I created a standard asset listing page that i want to clone and use in a lot of locations. But when i clone it and go to the Page Contents Bodycopy it says this: -

Content Type Asset Id : # not found

Please contact your system administrator

Content Type Asset Id : # not found

Please contact your system administrator Content Type Asset Id : # not found

Please contact your system administrator Content Type Asset Id : # not found

Please contact your system administrator

But the Default format is fine. Do you think there is problem with the cloning??

Rule of thumb for cloning (to get the best results): Always perform the clone logged in as the "root" user and ensure that no other locks are being held by anyone else. Cloning grabs a LOT of locks during the process.

I tried this as the root user but still got the same problems.

Is there any more idea's on this problem as i'm currently creating the layout for our site and i'm going to be cloning the same page any where to 50 times and i seem to be spending most of my time fixing the issue with the Body Keyword Replacement. If i didn't have this issue i think could have the structure of site done in next to no time. The only other things i have to consider after cloning is the name, short name and web paths.

Is anybody else able to replicate this on a 3.2.2 system.

I'm hoping to have my system upgraded to 3.4.0 within the next week.

Cheers

I don't have any more information, but I'm curious as to why you'd be cloning the same page up to 50 times?

I was under the impression that for your version of Matrix you cannot "clone a clone". That is to say, if you create an asset listing page, clone it, and then attempt to clone the cloned page, it won't work.

Not sure if this has been fixed in the newer versions of Matrix…

To get around this issue, create a folder called "originals" where you original asset lister lives. That way, you always know which one is the original to clone.

I have created a central place, i think similar to what you are looking to achieve in the 3.4.0. This is where i have several master Asset Listing Pages (display different information, sorting etc) i then clone this to the location on my site that i want and change the name, web path and because of the problem re-create the Body Keyword Replacement section as this is the bit that is screwed up after a clone. The reason i clone this master asset listing so many times is because our site is basically a document repository (Intranet Site).

If i try to just clone the assets under the Page Contents i get the same result.

I've updated a bug i posted about this. Basically if i have DIVS in the Body Keyword Replacement section they clone fine. It's just the tables that don't.

I wouldn't use the Table Bodycopies with Matrix anyway – they're nowhere near as efficient as divs. Rather, create a table (if its really necessary) within a Div and set the div properties to Raw HTML presentation (to supress the <div> tags).

Excellent, cheers Avi.

I just wish i knew this about a month ago when i was cloning a lot of pages and having to fix the problems i probably would have saved a days work at least

Yeah, I personally think that the table bodycopies should be removed anyway, so as not to lead people to temptation. I'll raise it with the development team, see what they think.

I think that upgrade would be a nightmare.

There is something to be said for having tables anyway. If you have a table within your WYSIWYG, you cant restrict access to the table or reuse it on another page unless you do so for the entire DIV. I'd rather not limit people's options considering table containers are already built.
