Is there a trigger that can automatically create a clone of an created asset or a link to that asset in a specified folder and apply a specific paint layout?

Yes, there is a Trigger Action for creating a clone, then linking it to a parent.
You can also use a Trigger to link the asset to a parent that has a Paint Layout applied, and it will cascade automatically to that child.
Have you tried either of these?
I have but it wants to know what the asset id for the asset it is cloning - what I am trying to do is clone the asset created so I won't have that info until I have created the asset.

There is a checkbox at the bottom that says "Clone broadcasting asset" which is set by default. You shouldn't have to choose an asset if this option is chosen.
