Hi All,
we are about to run some cms training in the next few months, just wanted to know if there is an automatic way of setting this all up in one go. This may include the design (customizing the design), setup any standard page(s) or permission, etc… just wanted to know if we can do this within the CMS front end or if there's any script that we can run to generate those things from the backed?

My personal suggestion is, there would be quite a lot of things to do before providing the training (which means the editing procedure has been finalized) to the web editors.
After Matrix is installed, there are lots of things follow up like implementation the design (parse file, customisation, CSS) and you will need to customise the simple edit interface which will be the most important part. The admin interface is not easy for editors to use.
If you go through some threads you'll find what Nic and Aleks did for their systems.
Matrix provides great flexibility so the procedures for updating and developing the site would be greatly various from clients to clients.
And again it's just my personal suggestion. :P’ /> <img src=‘http://forums.matrix.squiz.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif’ class=‘bbc_emoticon’ alt='![]()

Hi,
Thanks for that, what I'm trying to say is that when user finish the CMS Admin training i like them to go back in to those training environment and still play around what they have done in the training session. so what this mean every new session that we run means we have to go in and create new design (adding the parse file, customisation, css), pages etc… just wanted to know if their a way to generate all this automatically, rather then me going in and setting up 10 or 11 new design (parse file, customisation, css) etc every-time we run a session. If there is script or anything like that, that we can do that then this would save me a lot of time setting up those things that i mention above
Thanks

Sorry for my misunderstanding. From my view if you are Squiz client, you will need to contact Squiz for running a server script to clone your live site(including all children assets) to a training site. :P’ /> <img src=‘http://forums.matrix.squiz.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif’ class=‘bbc_emoticon’ alt='![]()
The training that Squiz offers makes use of automated system installs and builds via the standard XML-based import scripts that come with Matrix. It takes a while to craft the system in the exact way you want and it is considered very advanced functionality, but it is possible to do.
There is some info floating around the forums about XML importing, but that's about it. Considering it gives you the potential to completely destroy your system (it runs in a very special check-free mode) your best to contact Squiz about getting some help creating the right format. Once you've got it once, you can run it as many times as you want and on as many systems as you want.

You can make the system how you want, take a backup and restore it many times (just need to adjust the database names and site URLs, and apache config) - you can script all this if you like.
Thats how we manage our training systems in the UK, rather than using the XML import scripts (not sure why we dont use the scripts!).
The good thing about the scripts is that you don't have to worry about upgrading your demo system to keep it up to date. If that's not a concern for you, then Justin's backup/restore suggestion will be useful for you.
thanks for the hot tip guys ’ /> <img src=‘http://forums.matrix.squiz.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif’ class=‘bbc_emoticon’ alt=’
