Just wondering wether it is possible to set or inherit a 'default' future status, I would like to be able to 'force' up for review dates.

You can do this in our current development version with a new feature called Triggers. You can define business rules that allow you to set a future status for some assets when something happens to them (created, status change etc).
Nothing like that in 3.4 and 3.6 is still many months away.
