Design import/export

(Squiz) #1

Hi all,

Just browsing the documentation and I came across the import/export functionality of the design parse file. (http://manuals.matrix.squizsuite.net/designs/chapters/design-asset#Import-Export-Screen)

I was wondering if anyone's had any success using it in the past? I'm looking at developing on a dev system and importing the results into the production environment, but I've run into issues (errors, broken assets etc) doing this kind of thing using the other Matrix import/export tool in the past.

Also, I'm wondering if this also imports/exports design customisations or just the parse file and associated non-Matrix assets?

Cheers,

Ash.

After testing it looks to me like it doesn't export customizations or CSS Design Files.

Thanks for that. This has always been a pain point, I thought it might've gotten better when I saw that. It's a shame.

Well, I tested it on 4.10.0, but I have not heard of that feature getting updated.

It would be so awesome if this was possible. When we had the ace Anthony Barnes on campus we found that there were problems with the export of the design files that we were creating. I know it's a big bug bear with our coordinators, especially when building and testing files on QA systems - users don't want to potentially have to rebuild assets in production.

I would like to +1 on a request to have any bugs in the general export/import routines for all assets reviewed and resolved. I work extensively on a test system to develop new site features and then use the export to copy big chunks of stuff across to live. I'm on an older version 4.4.2 and I was rather hoping that when we upgrade in a month or two to 4.16 all the little niggles that screw me up (mostly nested divs getting corrupted) would have been long since fixed!
