E-Commerce: Promo Code Use - Visibility in Google Analytics

(Niro Rajapakse) #1

Hi Forum Users,

We’ve been on this platform around 2 years now and since of late renewed focus on e-commerce sales with increased use of promo codes (e.g. use the code and get 20% off select items).

Unfortunately we haven’t been able to isolate (for reporting purposes) transactions that use particular promo codes. The Google Analytics “Order Coupon” does not reflect the codes entered at checkout for some reason.

Has anyone else experienced this / is there a better way to achieve this reporting goal?

the site I refer to is oup.com.au

Much thanks
Niro

You would push the coupon details once the booking has been confirmed along with all the other product info no?

See the google docs: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/enhanced-ecommerce#measuring-transactions

Thanks for that, yes that should be the behaviour.

But that doesn’t get pushed through to Google Analytics. I’ll share this with the Squiz Support team and explore (we don’t have a developer in house).

It will be better if you use Google Tag Manager and the tag manager plugin for Chrome.
It will show visually what is firing and easy to debug.

Thanks,
