Edit subject line of bulkmail subscription verification email

(Marg C) #1

Hi everyone,

We need to be able to edit the subject line of the verification email that gets sent out when someone wants to subscribe to our Bulkmail-generated newsletter.

We want to change it from Please confirm your subscription / unsubscription request to Please confirm your subscription / unsubscription request [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED].

Being a Commonwealth Government department, all of our email correspondence has to include a classification marker in the subject line - if it doesn't it is blocked from being sent.

As a consequence, we can't turn on verification for subscribers as they'll never receive their verification email.

From what I can see there is no option available to change this particular subject line, but I wanted to check before logging it as a feature request in case I've missed something...

Thanks,

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

I can Confirm this. The subject line is hard coded within Matrix for the email but the feature would be useful so it surely gets my +1

Hi Ash,

Thanks for confirming, and for your support. There must be other government agencies who would have a similar issue...

I'll add it to the bug tracker as a feature request.

In the meantime, can you possibly point me in the direction of where it is hard coded? I found a reference to it in one of the bulkmail package files (bsp_verification_email_subject), but have been unable to locate the actual subject line. It's not ideal, but if we could change it in the code manually for now, we could at least get on with using Bulkmail to its full extent.

Thanks!

Hi Margaret,

The actual line resides in [Matrix_install]/packages/bulkmail/locale/en/lang_strings.xml I am not sure if you are Squiz Client. If so, changing the code may not work well for you. If you are Squiz Client then I would say you take the issue up to Squiz Support or the Manager within Squiz you would normally be dealing with.

If you are still happy to change the code then you will have to run the script (install/compile_locale.php) once the code is changed for the changes to affect.

Don't hesitate to ask any further question if you have any.

Hi Ash,

Thanks for that. We've made minor workaround changes to code before, but now that I have this info I'll certainly discuss the pros and cons with my manager before we decide what to do.

As you've probably noticed, I've just logged it as a feature request: http://bugs.matrix.squiz.net/view_bug.php?bug_id=6180.

Cheers,

Margaret

Was the feature request referenced by Margaret ever progressed?

Hi Douglas,

Yes, I believe the feature was added in version 4.14 - it's certainly an available option in our current 4.18.9 installation. :)

And I've found it - wonderful.  Thanks for requesting that feature Margaret.
