Files from TRIM corrupted

Hey everyone,

We are using the TRIM saved search feature to display PDF files from TRIM on the website. It is finding them and displaying them, but many of them when you click on the link cannot be opened; it says the file is corrupted. Well, the exact message is 'there was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired'.

But when we look at the original in TRIM it is fine and not corrupted.

Anyone else ever had problems like this?

Late to this post I know–sorry. Have you tried using right-click "save as" and downloading the file to your desk-top and then opening it–just in case it's a plugin problem?

Can you get both corrupt and good versions together and try diffing them. Is it a major difference or just a single character?

"Diffing" in Linux is: diff filename1 filename2. I am not sure if the OS you are using has a similar program (but most likely there is), otherwise see if a local sysadmin can help.

I have tried saving them and opening them, cause I thought it might be the plugin, but no joy.

I will hunt out information on 'diffing'.

Thanks guys, a late response is better than never!

I got a colleague to try and diff on their Ubuntu install, but they said because the file that came via MySource was corrupt it couldn't diff.

But a major difference is that the original file was 17MB and the one from MySource is only 4MB. Could the size of the file have something to do with it? If so, I don't understand why the MySource file didn't come in at 10MB, which is our system limit.

Something is really wrong there! It would be really hard to tell without looking at the system, but some things you could probably try:

  • Check the downloaded document is binary and not text by looking at it in an editor (if it is text, then maybe you are seeing MySource errors)[*]Check the error log for errors[*]Check that the Sharepoint details (for the document, like ID etc.) are correct.
If you cannot see anything obvious, contact Squiz Support for some help. Integration can be hard at times because you have to make sure both system are installed, configured and talking correctly. Also, I think the 10Mb limit you are talking about is the upload limit, not download.

Well, it won't open in a text editor, and nothing comes up in the logs. Also, there is no Sharepoint involved, this is TRIM.

My only comfort is now that it seems to be doing it to all the documents, not just some of them, so at least it's consistent!

Now I just need to find out if we have the support hours I guess…

Sorry! No idea what I was thinking about when I said Sharepoint. But same applies, check the username/password, but also check that records are correct (maybe it might be messing up id numbers or something!?!)
