Can this be changed? There is no way to browse through to older topics.
Apparently the setting is in:
Admin CP -> Manage Forums -> Settings -> "Current Age Cut Off? set to "Show All"
Edit: it looks like only some of the forums have this setting: Support, Designs, General Discussion and Developers seem to be affected, but the others look ok.
You can actually change your view, just like in the previous version, but you need to click on the dark blue "view options" bar. But because you asked so nicely, I've changed the defaults for all the forums anyway.
