General Discussion is too empty

So here's a post to ask you where you found out about Matrix.

I found out about Mysource from hotscripts.com.
I could not get it to work for me. Installing on a hosted server did not work and instructions were not clear for a newbe.

I left it alone and went on to use MamboOs 4.5.

Now I am back after checking up on a new version, which i found out to be Matrix

Well I here go again, I will try to install one more time.

for me Installing TYPO 3.5 was easier than MySource eairler version.

Mostly through word of mouth. It was a suggestion made by a web administrator whilst we were evaluating another CMS for its suitability. And now it's Matrix's turn, step right up, it's evaluation time

I found out about matrix from the mysource website. As for mysource in general, I don't remember just where I found it. I only remember we needed a CMS at work and I did a lot of searching on google, freshmeat and the like for something powered by PHP.

PHPnuke, postnuke and all that crap just didn't cut it, and finally it was either mysource 2.x or eZ publish 3 which was still in beta.

I found out about Mysource when I was doing a search for a PHP based CMS.

I originally had tried Plone, but wanted something in PHP. So I of course tried the nukes which I couldnt stand. Came across MySource 2.x but never tried it as the website was touting MySource Matrix as soon to be released.

I then found Mambo which I was seriously thinking of implementing, but it lacked one key feature I desperatly need which is an ACL. Aside from that, I love Mambo and have narrowed my search down to MySource Matrix, Mambo, and Sitellite. I intend to begin our company's intranet and internet redesign in one of these CMS before the end of the summer.

Now that I've had a taste of MySource Matrix, it's hard to really enjoy the others and think of them seriously (the only thing that brings MySource down is the lack of an integrated search and site map feature).

Matrix does have both integrated search and an extended CMS package (which includes the Site Map asset) available as commercial modules. You should contact our Sales team directly to get pricing on these modules, or even to see if you qualify to receive the modules free of charge (there are some non-profit, educational and government entities that qualify).

It does have an integrated site search? I will have to check into that again then…prolly just missed it.

I did talk with Lee in sales, and the company I work for is a non profit healthcare facility in a small rural area. The only other thing I know I will be asked about besides a search is the site map. I have no other need for the other assets that are available (outside of an event calendar).

Lee did give me a good price for all the modules as one big package, but I can't see upper management biting at even that.

Oh well…still think the product is awesome! (even with the license)

The Search is not included in the download version. You need to get the search module from Squiz.net.

Does he know you're non-profit? If not, ring him again and stress this point.

Yes Lee does know we are non-profit.

He has given me a very generous offer and I feel bad that it's not something I can act on.

I know you all have to eat and I totally understand the business side of your organization.

I hope I'm not coming off in the forums as Mr. Cheap Skate or having a gripe cause you have to pay for modules. That's definately not the case at all.

I was of course just wanting to give you guys your dues since the product is by far the best PHP CMS I have seen. I just wish I had more of a budget and could justify the expense for the added functionality.

Regardless, I will set it up as-is along with a few others and let the end users make a decision as to which product they like the best and go from there.

Thanks for passing the word on to the sales team. As I continue to have interaction with your company, I become more and more impressed with the overall product.

If you need site search there are other (free) tools available - we're currently setting up Webinator from Thunderstone. If MySource Matrix is as good as it looks like for its intended purposes, I wouldn't let the lack of a free search module stop me.

I saw a Billboard on the side of the road with Open Source and squiz.net on it. This is on the Central Coast area of NSW. I had to check it out.
