Hi,
Is it possible to use the Global Search and Replace tool to search and replace HTML? If so how can I do this?
Cheers
I don't think this is possible, as from what I understand, the search and replace tool only looks at content that is indexed. And, since HTML tags are not indexed, it won't work to search and replace them.
The global search and replace will actually find matches in some of the html elements in your content and may give you the oportunity to change the values. Text in links and image tags, for example, may get picked up in the content of assets. The global search and replace can not be used to specifically target the html though. So if you can craft a tricky search and replace where you can pick up what you want in content it can be useful because you can specifically select what you want to replace but this could be pontless if you are not talking about masses of changes as it would be quicker to just go to the pages and do it manually. If you do have masses of changes in a predictable pattern though and you can access the server you can highjack the HTML tidy config for the change then run it across the site then change tidy back. I can't give you specific directions I just know that this was a particularly big lifesave on a big migration i was involved in some years back. wasn't it Anthony;)
