Looking at my search report each individual word is listed separately even if people typed in two words at the same time (eg someone searches 'lost dogs' but the report shows dogs and lost as if they were searched separately).
Is there any way to view the search report via searches rather than each word separated out? It's hard to be certain what exactly people are typing in currently.
There is no way to do this. The search manager searches for each term separately and so the logs are separate.
You should however be able to do this with your analytics service.
I tried to set up site search in Google analytics but can't get it working. Can someone please advise what to put in as the query parameter and whether or not to tick to strip query parameters?
All you need to do is enter the query parameter that your search page uses. So, do a test search, and look for something like: queries_search_field_query (which is what we use on puc.edu). Then, you enter that into your Analytics profile:

Hmm, well that seems pretty much like what I’ve had in there for a few weeks.
A search on our site for ‘map’ produces a url like http://www.site.com/search_page?mode=results&queries_pages_query=map&x=0&y=0 . So I should use queries_pages_query in Google Analytics?
Yep. :)
Okay, thanks, hopefully in a couple of days there will be some results.
Working, thanks!
Wonderful!
