How do I remove a site from a site network?

I am not sure of how to remove one of our sites from within a site network. It is linked to a site that sits outside of the network.

If I delete it then the site outside the network will also delete, which I do not want to happen.

Any ideas?

If the Site has multiple parents (i.e. its linked to a Site Network as well as the Root, or another Folder) then hitting delete on the instance under the Site Network will only remove that link, and not the others.

To make sure of this, check the "Linking" screen of the Site in question. If it has at least one other TYPE_1 or TYPE_2 link to a parent besides the Site Network, you can safely delete the link to the Site Network itself.

Hope that makes sense!

I tested deleting with a single asset first rather than the whole site and it removed that asset from both, not just the site network. Are single assets treated differently from the actual site?

There is at least one other Type_1 link. I tried to remove the link for the site network using the Delete Link option in Future Linking. This did not work and now appears to have frozen our cron manager. I deleted this job. Now somehow a copy of the site is in the trash yet the other 2 remain???

Some clarification:

If an asset exists is more than one location, moving one of those locations to the trash (or anywhere else for that matter) will not move the others.

However, if an asset is linked into a site, and that site exists in two places, then the asset really only has one link (although it has two lineages) so moving that asset to the trash will remove both those lineages.
