Inserting Divs in Safe Edit

How do users insert a div in Safe Edit mode? Any work arounds?

We have ~1000 web authors - most of which will be forced to go through workflow so they won't be able to edit a live page until they change it to Safe Edit and they will need to insert new divs on a regular basis.

It will not be realistic to copy the page or place under construction to add the div etc…

What can be done and what are others doing?

Thanks

Can I ask why you need to let them create new bodycopy divs?

The only way to add a Div to an existing page in Safe Edit is to move it from another Standard Page that is in Safe Edit. So, you'd have to create a new page, get it all the way to Safe Edit from Under Construction and then move the Div.

However, now that we can create new assets with the same status as their dependent parent, it may be time to revisit the restriction on div creation and allow users to create new bodycopies that start in Safe Edit themselves. Might want to submit that as a feature request.

Pages develop over time.

The two main reasons I can see authors wanting divs in addition to the main WYSIWYG are
1. nest content - to nest content from another page beneath the content of the current page
2. apply a class to float the div to the right to form a right column

Yes authors could get in touch with administrators to add divs but we have a lot of authors! It would be nice if they just want to add a right column to their page or nest some information that they could do it all on their own.

Cheers,
Sarah

Will do thanks! :D

The issue has never been with the status; putting a new DIV into Safe Edit is easy. The issue is the link.

The linking system doesn't know anything about Safe Edit, so when you cancel the safe edit, that new DIV will not be deleted and the link will not disappear. That means that the DIV will go Live when the rest of the page reverts back to its previous Live status. The problem there is obviously that content went live without approval.

To make DIV creation work in Safe Edit, we'd need to keep track of DIVs that were created during Safe Edit and then remove them if it is canceled. We'd also have to be much tricker with how we display content to the user, so we don't have empty DIVs floating around on the page, which could break the page layout.
