Is there a desktop on VM

I got the VM running from this URL - https://matrix.squiz.net/releases/vm. I am starting to go through the tutorial about how to create a design https://matrix.squiz.net/manuals/designs/chapters/steps-to-creating-a-design.

Is there is a desktop environment that is installed on the VM? If so, how do I start it? If there isn’t, how can I install one? I know that these are UNIX newbie questions, but I have been googling things for the last 2 hours and am at my wits end.

Please disregard. I have now been able to connect through ftp and should be able to get things going from there. I’ll just upload an editor so I don’t have to use VI.
