Java issues with 10.5 Leopard?

I am curious if Squiz knows of any java issues with 10.5 Leopard. I consistently cannot load the asset map with any browser but Safari when NOT on our campus. When I am at home, or on the road, it is frustrating to have to use Safari.

Would there be any reason that Gecko browsers would not be loading the asset map, and webkit browsers would? At work I always use Camino, but when off campus, that is impossible.

Just wondering if this issue has been seen before.

Java console shows no errors…

I also have similar problems - have not been able to get an errors out of it at all. At times the whole browser will hang and then crash when the admin CP is loading. I'll see if I can get any additional info seeing as it's maybe not an isolated incident as i first thought!

Hi Nick, I used to have an issue with FF2, but never any issues with Camino. FF3 no issues so far. I can use them either through our company firewall and at home. I can use them in a car, I can use them near and far. Sorry couldn't resist.

What version of Java is running on your Mac ? mine is:

java version "1.5.0_13"

Java™ 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)

Java HotSpot™ Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)

Looks like I am running the exact same version. Strange thing is, this happened on my older G4 running leopard, and now my new intel iMac, both could never load the asset map without Safari.

I too had that problem under FF2 (it would crash my browser) but it worked for everyone else in the company, so I had to move to the FF3 alpha builds to get it working, and camino. Never had any issues on my new mac.

I'm running Leopard (10.5.4) and have no problems using the asset map in Camino or Minefield/FF3 either at the Squiz office or remotely from home or on my 3G connection.

This is an issue that comes up quite a bit.

I can't access the asset map from home with any browser on os x leopard. However, I am fully able, with any windows browser to access the asset map (on the same MBP).

I'm pretty sure it has to be on the network level. Because at work it works fine, and at home it doesn't. The only thing different, in terms of setup, is the network.

I've tried to alter MTU and other various settings on my modem (after attempting direct connection to modem) but to no avail…

I've had the same issue on a Client's iMac, but resolved that to be bad handling of the certificates. So I suggest first taking a look at your certificates, try taking off 'always allow' in your keychain system preferences pane.

Thanks Chris, I will give this a try and see if it gets resolved. I am just thinking it is strange Safari works. It must handle something differently. I will also see if the asset map loads fine in Windows on my VM.
