Java problem

(Tom Chadwin) #1

Brand new to MSM. Installed current version on a Debian Lenny VM. Managed to get through all of that. However, the Java Asset Map will not load on FF/Win or IE/Win. No errors appear on the Java console. JVM is 1.6.0_20-b02.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to work out what the problem is?

Thanks

Never mind - I thought it was the latest MSM version, but it was not. Starting again with the latest (and installing some PEAR internationalization module) seems to have got me up and running.

That said, I don't think I've had as much difficulty getting an application installed since Asterisk. Is there any scope for improvement, or is this one way in which Squiz maintain an income stream, by making it as difficult as possible?

How about a VMWare image of MSM, rather than just of Mini - that would be terrific.

Personally, I don't think that Matrix is all that hard to install if you are familiar with Linux and Apache. It is just people that are used to things like Wordpress or Drupal that find it frustrating. This is not on the same level as those, so the requirements are much different, making the installation more complicated.

I disagree, but let's not get hung up on that.

I now think I have a working 3.28.0 install, but the Asset Map applet is being flakey. There seem to be two issues. Firstly, sometimes it takes an age to load up (several minutes). Secondly, there seem to be substantial display glitches. The key arrows at the bottom duplicate in odd places, and lists do not always display all their values. Sometimes mousing over the invisible items reveals them, and sometimes not. Anyone come across this, and have any ideas on how to rectify? Build 1.6.0_20-b02, by the way.

Thanks

Anyone?

Uploaded to 3.28.1, and things seems a lot better. However, I'm on the same LAN as the server here, not on a VPN. I'll try it again from home tomorrow, and see whether the improvement is due to the upgrade or the connectivity.

Thanks, by the way.
