Java Support in IE7

Hi

I've been doing some reading and have found that Java is no longer going to be supported in IE7 from 31 December. What does this mean for Matrix and the Asset Tree on the backend?

Mike

Could you post a reference to that, please?

I personally haven’t read anything to that extent. I know Microsoft’s own Java virtual machine was to hit the end of its support life at the end of 2007, but everyone should have moved to Sun’s JVM already (unless they had a specific dependency on Microsoft’s runtime).

In MySource Matrix terms, IIRC Microsoft’s JVM was too old to run the asset map anyway (version 1.3 at most… might have been even earlier… Matrix’s asset map requires 1.4.2), so Matrix users should already be using Sun’s JVM on Windows. To IE6 (and I’d imagine IE7 too), Sun’s Java is just another add-on - in the same way, say, Adobe Reader or the Google Toolbar is - so there’s no reason to believe that Sun would not continue to proceed that way.

As Avi said, I’m quite willing to stand corrected with a pointer to appropriate reading material, but that’s what I understand.

whoops… may have got my wires crossed. I will do some more reading, but am probably overtired and brainless  Sorry, if I have got this wrong
