Java version

I'm new to Squiz Matrix having inherited a site to support. The first issue I have that I can't find any reference documentation on is the machine requirements to load the backend asset map. On one of my PC's it loads most of the time but sometimes doesn't make it initialising the java applet. On another machine it never successfully loads the asset map remaining 'stuck' at loading the applet indefinitely. Both PC's have Win7. I would be most grateful for some guidance on this

Hi,

You probably meant documentation on your end. There sure is documentation for the same on the Squiz Matrix site. Check this out.

Ash

If you need more docs, we have a manuals site available: http://manuals.matrix.squizsuite.net/

Thanks for that fast reply !
It seems that my PC does meet the requirements. I have Firefox 4 (which I assume meets the Firefox 1.5+ requirement)and Java 6. However it still wont load the backend applet hence I cant administer the site. Any suggestions ???

Hi,

I don't know which version of Matrix you're running. I do know that the asset map in versions before the 4.x series won't load if your Java JRE is anything more recent than Version 6 Update 23 (it is currently at Update 27). I've had to manually downgrade machines and disable auto-updates to ensure we can continue to use Matrix. This has been tested across browsers (FF 3.6 > 6, Chrome, IE 7 > 9) and 2 different Windows versions (XP and 7).

Thank you for replying. I am using SQUIZ Matrix v4.4.1. The PC that will run the backend has Java 6 upgrade 25 and the one that wont run the backend has Java 6 upgrade 26. Does anyone know if that is an issue ??

Can you look at your java console and see if there are errors?

I'm close to solving it !! It is some sort of firewall issue. If I connect via wifi to an open network then it works as it should. I suspect it has something to do with certificates so I'll delve into the issue here. Thanks for the help and I'll post the final resolution for further reference if others have this issue

If you're behind a firewall / proxy then you may need to change the Java settings from "Direct Connection" to "via Proxy".
