Linking to an asset id from outside of Matrix

Hi there,


to link to a document (in matrix) from an external program (like word or a pdf), is the following ok to use?

    http://mywebsite.com.au/?a=70665

It seems to work, but I wondered if there are any risks in using that method, or if there are any better alternatives? I am hoping there's a way to link directly to the id and not use absolute links like:

    http://mywebsite.com.au/__data/assets/word_doc/0007/70665/my_awesome_doc.doc

etc.

You can link to an asset using ?a=xxx but Matrix will not be able to determine the lineage. So your menus, lineages, designs and paint layouts will all be based on the front part of the URL as these are all URL-based features.


So if your URL is: www.example.com/products?a=123

Matrix will print asset 123 with the URL-base features of the page at www.example.com/products



This comes in handy with some implementations as it allows you to apply different designs and paint layouts to the same asset by just varying the front part of the URL.
