hi,
can i get some assistance. i need to enable remote access in a linux server.
how am i able to do that.
I think what I would like to know is if it is possible to access map to a linux machine through a windows box?
- if yes, how do i do it?
- if now, what is the work around.
It is not recommended to enable Windows File Sharing on your production webserver, for security purposes. However, this is also the simplest way of mapping a drive from a Windows PC.
There are alternative access methods including SFTP via SSH and WebDAV. The configuration of this kind of access is outside the scope of our forums, though. I recommend finding a general Linux support forum and getting more specific assistance there.
Hi MR3!
I would recommend www.howtoforge.com where you might find a tutorial for what you want to do.
hi coolvik,
the requirement is would like to install centOS into the existing system without disturbing the curren WINDOWS OS.
in the www.centos.org i am trying to download version 4.3 it is taking ages. it shows estimated time around 3 hours (for cd1 only, there are 3 more cds to download).
am i downloading the right one.
You probably won't be able to install CentOS without disturbing your existing Windows installation. You should look into something like VMware to run CentOS in a virtual machine on your Windows PC.
Also, I know your IT guys have copies of Linux locally, so you should ask them for a copy.
