Hi there, newbie to mysource here. I need some Mac help please:
I am on a new G5 Mac so I am presuming the version of Java I have is up-to-date – I am battling to get Firefox working: the Java applet will not load, I keep getting a nullPointException message
Mac OS 10.4.2
Firefox 1.0.7
Matrix v3.4.4
Java … see PDF attachment
(Camino 0.8.4 works OK, to some degree, but is not helpful when I get to edit details.)
Thanks in anticipation,
ANne.
Hi,
Mac requires the Java Embedded Plugin to be installed (Java Embedded Plugin). I don’t have Tiger (only on Mac OSX 10.3) but it does work for me on Firefox 1.0.7.
Hope this helps.
I think the problem is solved from another direction: if one works from an assumption about the the Mysource program code's recognising the user browser (or not) and therefore perhaps not catching and handling exceptions for some user agents, then what we did here makes sense:
- installed UserAgentSwitcher on my Mac
- which allows Firefox to present the user agent string of another browser – pick one whose applet DID work in my case Safari;
- after installing UserAgentSwitcher, we quit Firefox and restarted the browser, went to Firefox's Tools option, then to Useragents, and selected one of the ones that works (in my case, Safari)
- and sailed on…
UserAgentSwitcher is from:

On second thoughts … the useragent route has not worked.
I have reinstalled the Java plugins and followed the readme … no luck.
Back to square one.
Any ideas what I should do next please?
Thanks, Anne.
The problem turned out to be nothing to do with my being on a Mac, but my being on a large network, and my IP addressing settings needed to be altered by Squiz; now all is well, thanks.
