How do you get a normal menu to only display standard pages and folders?
The only way is to make sure everything else is TYPE_2 linked. Otherwise, the menu (currently) doesn't allow filtering by asset type. You could submit this as a feature request though.
The normal menu we currently use (developed by squiz) only displays standard pages so there must be a way to do it without setting 10,000 files to type 2 links. I am rebuilding our intranet design and I've copied the normal menu from the design that squiz originally did but it doesnt behave the same way as the original design. Perhaps someone that is familiar with our site could provide some assistance.
I would log a request with the Squiz Support desk for this, so that we can track it according to your client information.
