Maximum number of design customisations

We are in a situation where we now have dozens of designs. We are trying to simplify things down to one or two designs with lots of customisations.

At one point I thought I read something on this forum about a recommended upper limit of customisations (though I can't seem to find the post now).

Is there an upper limit? Is it better to maintain lots of designs than to have lots of customisations?

The upper limit is based on your hardware. I recommend a maximum of 10 - 15 customisations (total) per design on a dual-processor, dual-server v3.6 or higher installation.

Essentially, you need to create a design and keep creating customisations until the time taken to parse the design becomes unreasonably long (or hangs completely). Once you hit that point, you know you've reached the upper limit of possible customisations for you system.

I think it is simpler to maintain less designs with more customisations, and its something that we are focussing on in the next version, to ensure that you can truly get unlimited customisations per design.

I have exactly the same question regarding the upper limit of customisations on a design. I notice Avi said that in the next version this is something that is being focussed on. I also notice that the post was back in March.

Has anything changed with the upper limit on customisations yet in later versions yet?

On the current stable system (3.10), I'm seeing at least 20-30 customisations being supported on most systems.
