I am experiencing a strange issue. While trying to use the Global Search and Replace tool, I found many assets that contained an abbreviation of text in metadata, but for some reason the replace tool said that it could not find that string. So, I manually changed a large number of the metadata values to its non-abbreviated text. After this, when using an asset listing, and sorting by that metadata field, those assets now stay on the bottom of the listing, they are not in the sort order, which is strange. It is almost like those assets metadata is not being recognized as metadata. Even though I can edit the fields on the metadata screen of those assets.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Very strange. I tried to Regenerate metadata files and after this, it completely reverted all my metadata back to their original abbreviations, which is not really cool since it took me forever to find and replace them.
Is this expected behavior?
If this is a Text metadata field, regenerating should never replace your existing value. It wouldn't have anything to replace it with actually.
I haven't seen or heard of a problem like this before.

Well, it most definitely replaced all of the values to their original values. I just upgraded to 3.16.2 this morning, but admittedly I have not tried this find and replace procedure before. I used the minor version upgrade guide because there was not a specific upgrade guide for 3.16.1 --> 3.16.2 I hope I have not screwed something up.
Using the minor version upgrade guide is correct.
If you edit the metadata value using the metadata screen, then regen the metadata, is that change lost also?

Well, strangely after I use the find and replace too, and it finds the fields to replace, it fails every time it is trying to reindex those assets.
I just tried this process again, using the find and replace tool, and then regenerate, and I am getting the same results.
No, the change is not lost if I edit the value on the metadata screen then regen.
It really does sound like your upgrade has gone a bit wrong.
Thanks Guys, I have contacted support.
