Metadata on record sets

Hi guys,

Im trying to apply metadata to an RSS data source and its record sets. Whenever I try I get an ERROR: Invalid sort field for the asset type Data Source Record Ste

So i guess what Im asking is it possible to get metadata on these assets and if not is there any way for a user to differentiate/flag one record asset to set it apart from the list.

I'm not sure you can apply metadata to shadow assets. Can you give us more info about what you're trying to achieve so we can brain-storm alternative methods? :)

Nathan and I have been brainstorming all morning so some fresh insight couldnt hurt.

What were hoping to do is take an rss feed, allow a user to select certain items within the feed and then list only these selected items.

You want an end-user or administrator to select the items for display? You can link data source record set assets underneath normal assets, so if the items are selected by an administrator, you could just link the ones you want to a new folder and list the folder (instead of the RSS Bridge itself). Alternatively, you may be able to manipulate the Link Manager to be able to do it on a per-user basis, but I haven't quite thought that through completely. :)

I suspect you could link items under the user's workspace and then dynamically switch root nodes.

It's going to be an admin but with the front end edit interface, this has given us a new take on things. I didn't realise these could be linked to folders so this could prove to be a rather neat solution.

You're a good man Avi Miller!

The [s]problem[/s] challenge is going to be when the RSS Feed refreshes and items that you have selected are no longer available. At this point, you're going to have broken shadow links in the system. I'm not entirely sure what Matrix is going to do -- it won't paint the item, but you could have a bunch of entries in the shadow link table that are invalid.

Theyr'e going to be mailed out and used once a month so after the mail job has completed we can purge all the linked assets so we should be covered from that side of things.

Now I have the fun task of learning the link manager this afternoon

Hrm, Ive been playing with the link manager and trying to get it to move the data source recordes under the rss node to a new dynamic location without much luck. I havent really used this asset much but is it actually possible to do this?

Check in the Administration Interface first. I know I can link normal Data Source Record Set assets under other assets.

You probably also want to think about how to implement the 'remove feed' feature, i.e. how to remove the link from user workspace when they want to 'unsubscribe' from a feed.

Yeap as soon as we get this part up and running thats going to be the next exciting part to tackle.

Now for another question. If i set the managed asset as fixed I can relink one of the RSS shadow assets, however if i try and dynamically display all the shadow assets under an RSS feed im unable to do it. Ive logged a job with Daniel about this but he said the Sydney guys are on holiday today so thought id throw this out here as well.
