my client use asset listings to show an FAQ.
Every Q&A is its own asset which are listed, the asset listing page adds the formatting to the FAQ page.
The search engine indexes the individual Q&A assets which aren’t formatted to be shown individually.
The result is that the visitors can access the individual Q&A assets out from its context and design.
My client want to let the visitors the get search hits from the FAQ but those should show up in a formatted edition.
The nicest solution would be that the search engine could index the FAQ page and link the user directly to the answer in the FAQ list, but this seems to be hard to be done.
The other way would be using alternative designs when showing the Q&A assets individually.
I need some input on how to solve this issue in a nice way.

Sorry for any signs of corrupt use of the english language. Its quite late here in Sweden 
I dont have a complete solution for you, but to stop the search results looking really bad, you could apply a paint layouts to the Q&A pages and nest the asset listing into the paint layout, so at least the user sees the Q&A main page instead of some unformatted text.
Don't know how you'd show the correct page from the listing and auto-expand the correct answer. I'm not sure it's possible with the way searching works. You'd have to write your own custom asset like the Multiple Page asset, which does funny stuff with indexing and URLs to hide the fact that there are multiple assets. Not easy though.

I'm back from vacation and am looking into this right now.
I have to be honest, I’ve never used the Paint Layouts before.
I can manage to create a paint layout but can’t “assign” it to the Q&A pages. It’s really strange, since I can assign it to other standard pages.
When I try to “assign” the paint layout to the Q&A page from its lookup settings page it won’t assign it. I choose the paint layout from the asset picker and save. But nothing happens. No error messages, the HIPO job runs out as normal.
The Q&A pages are standard pages assets, so it can’t have anything to do with any special asset types.
Any ideas?
Can you check the /path/to/matrix/data/private/logs/error.log file for any messages?

Do the pages have URLs? You can only apply paint layouts to assets that have a URL.

Its a kind of FAQ, every A&Q is a standard page asset which are displayed via an asset listing page. But when those are showed direct via the url they get no formatting, thats why I want to add paint layouts.
