what do i have to do to get MySource Matrix run on a hosted server? Is this possible? Havent found any informations about that.

MySource Matrix is not easy to install on a shared server, and usually won’t work at all (particularly on shared hosts that use any sort of administration system like Plesk, CPanel or Ensim). The security model employed by these administration systems in an attempt to secure Apache/PHP just prevent Matrix from working.
What the options for companies that don't have inhouse dedicated servers? My client based in the UK would love to use Matrix but we cannot find a host that has all the requirements and they all offer PHP5. Am I right in saying if I find a hosting company that offered a virtual machine I could install the necessary packages on it and run the site from there? Any other solutions would be more than welcome.
Either virtual machines or dedicated servers would do it. It requires some work with setting up the enviroment (Apache/PHP4/Postgres) though.

You could, but understand that this would only be suitable for small to medium sized sites. Depending on the load, you may find yourself requiring dedicated server hardware.
