Hi,
Is there a way to auto-populate a metadata field with the summary of a News item?
I haven't looked into it just yet, but I'm sure it's something that people have done before.
What's the best practice?
No, there isn't.
What are you trying to achieve? Why use a metadata field instead of the summary field itself?
I think you can use a keyword in the metadata field, like %asset_attribute_summary%, to place the contents of the attribute into the field when it is printed in the HEAD of the page.
Someone may like to try that out and confirm.

Actually the current metadata manager does not replace the keyword with the prefix, ‘asset_attribute_’, at the moment. It would be the feature request that the metadata manager can provide the attribute replacement.
