Oracle and Load balancing?

Hi all.

We're looking at hosting a reasonably large site on one (or more) Matrix instances. We're already an Oracle and/or MySql shop, and the thought of a 3rd database environment doesn't exactly fill me with excitement. I believe that Oracle'll be supported in 3.6? If that's the case, does anyone know an expected release date for a prod-ready 3.6 (I know RC1's available for download - but I don't imagine that my powers-that-be would be altogether overjoyed going live on a release candidate :))

Speaking of powers-that-be, they (andI) sleep better at night knowing we're running a load-balanced and resilient web farm (we are now, sitting behing a couple of Cisco Catalyst LBs in a redundant pair). I've spoken with Steve Morgan about load balancing and got the impression that RedHat Cluster Services are an altogether good thing™ whne thinking about such issues, but I've not been able to work out just how such things might be of assistance. Has anyone done anything similar?

Cheers

First question: Yes, MySource Matrix v3.6 will support Oracle 9i/10g. At the moment, it is due for release in September, though I'm not officially the spokesperson on that, so that date may change.

Secondly, there are a number of ways to successfully clutster Matrix. Obviously, you can host the database on an Oracle cluster. For the webheads, a Redhat Cluster Suite with GFS works well too. It would be good to have a formal discussion with you to work out your requirements/specifications and come up with the right method for you.

Official release date is the 5th of September.

There are a number of options for clustering, but they are not available for public viewing at the moment. If you do contact Squiz, there are a few diagrams floating around that show you the different clustering options.

Thanks much for the updates. Will be in contact about the clusetering solutions as soon as we can.
