Firefox quits as soon as I try to access my Matrix website as a backend user.
I am using Mac 0S 10.4.7 latest update and the problem began immediately after installing that update.
So thiis may be the same problem that another user sometime towards the end of July had reported with regard to the Java version on Linux.
Firefox works with everything else I try to access.
Which is why I suspect the Java version that might have come with the 10.4.7 update?
Some notes:
I have tried reinstalling Firefox but the problem persists.
I can however still access my Matrix site using Mozilla.
Some possibly relevant notes:
Safari no longer runs at all since the 10.4.7 upgrade.
Truth to tell, my Mac froze just before the 10.4.7 update completed its install …
Thanks.
PS I am not a techie
There are a whole bunch of us at Squiz with Macs, and no-one has reported this issue yet. I suspect that your Mac had issues with the 10.4.7 upgrade and you should check the Apple support forums for more information about resolving that issue (particularly if Safari no longer works!).
Try downloading the 10.4.7 update package from Apple’s website:
Apple’s Download Page
You have to do it this way since it will no longer show up in software update. Try the package install and it should take care of your problems. Be sure to repair permissions before and after.
Hope this helps.
Use Disk Utility for repairing the permissions (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility). Click on your startup drive and click 'Repair Disk Permissions' button towards the bottom of the window.
If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the 10.4.7 upgdate if you can.
I've just changed over to a Mac from a PC - I'm finding that right-clicking on assets in the asset map is not doing anything.
Is this to do with my mighty-mouse? Works ok when I use my old PC mouse…
I'm on OSX 10.4.8
With the mighty mouse, make sure you dont have you finger on the left side of the mouse at the same time as your right click - mucks it up.
Also, I have the bluetooth version, and it doesn't really like Java. It does work sometimes, but I find it easier to Apple+Click to bring up the menu.
Finally, if you have the bluetooth version, turn it off and then back on to reconnect it. This seems to make the right-click work better for a while.
(Starting to sound like an Apple forum)
Also, I find that sometimes I have to left-click to activate the Asset Map before the right-click will work.
I am using a Mac and have this same "problem". I am very used to it now, but is this a bug? It seems like the right click should work correctly, I too have to left-click then right-click for the menu to be activated.

If it is a bug, its a Firefox/Java bug: Essentially, you need to left-click to “activate” the Java applet first, then right-click to get the menu. I’m also so used to it by now that I do it on Windows too.
You can also do a double-click with your right mouse button to activate the menu. Just an alternative to left-click then right-click.
As an FYI, the "click first" thing is not a bug (although many wish it was) - it was caused by a resolution of some sort of patent claim against MS over automatic launching of applets (Google up "Eolas patent" and you're bound to find more info if you wish) - hence why the "click first" thing was first seen in MSIE, to avoid licensing that patent (and with MSIE 6 it's left click only, so the "double right click" trick would not work there… MSIE 7 would probably be the same).
I wouldn't be surprised if other browsers are implementing it too (I read that Opera 9 does the same)… I know I haven't seen it in Firefox 1.5/Win yet as far as I can tell - the upcoming 2.0 might be a different matter, but I haven't played with the betas of that so I can't say.
Luke, this is in FF/Mac – you have to click-first into the Asset Map every time. Its not related to the IE Patent thing.
