Trying to find out more about paint layouts to see if they can solve a specific problem.
This page: http://matrix.squiz.net/developer/articles/mysource-matrix/paint-lay says:
“more information is available in Volume 2 of the MySource Matrix User Manual”
The CMSPackageManual says:
“TIP: See Chapter 7 – Paint Layouts in Volume 2 of the MySource Matrix User Manual
for more details about how to create and apply Paint Layouts.”
but the two versions I have: ‘usermanualvol2_3.10.0a’ and ‘UserManualVol2_v3.8.4a’, don’t mention paint layouts.
Of course, I might as well air the actual problem: How can I display the queued ‘Future Status’ changes of an asset /group of assets? As far as I can see, the only way is to go into each page’s details screen and check them manually.
I dont think there is a keyword in the paint layout for you to display the detail of the future status cron job for an asset.
However, you may view all scheduled cron jobs in the "View Jobs" screen of the Cron Manager (System Management > Cron Manager). See the attached screenshot for more info.

No, I suspected as much on the keyword - even without any paint layout documentation I kinda worked that out.
The cron manager is only available to system admins but I want simple edit users to be able to view a list of what they've queued up with the 'future status' tool.
is this another feature request coming up?
You can use %details-F_status_future_status% (Includes the change future status section on the Simple Edit Interface) to be more specific, but that is only applicable to Layout (for Simple Edit), not Paint Layout.

It appears that the documentation team have since moved Paint Layouts into the http://matrix.squiz.net/developer/articles/mysource-matrix/paint-lay. The Table of Contents in that is decidedly wonky, but Paint Layouts begin on page 114.
