Performance Monitor number mismatch

We have entries in our performance log that report

"Listing page #ABCD is trying to list 1604 assets, which exceeds the performance monitor threshold of 1000"

However, when I check the output from the asset (both logged in and as a public user) the list only contains 584 items with data on 584 assets.

Is the number from the performance log accurate? Does the performance monitor threshold constrict what's shown on the listing page?

The warning is accurate since it indicates the number of assets Matrix trying to load while listing the page.

This number might not be the exact number of assets you see in the result output, because after this warning is logged, the loaded assets will be further filtered against Exclude Root Node, status, pagination and listing styles (grouped, letter). It should be less displayed than it really loaded.

You can ignore this warning if the listing page is reasonably fast for you.

Any suggestions on how to improve the page if it isn't too fast or timing out? We have a listing that tries to load near 6000 assets before filtering and takes around 25 seconds to load. The only real filtering on the listing is asset status types to show and everything else is default.

Are you able to use the Direct Links Setting? Can you remove all status' to list, so that Matrix will just list these by permissions? What are you sorting by?
