Problems with Simple Edit Interface

Hi,

This problem has been around for some time on our site - I'm not sure what the problem could be…hope someone can help.

The problem concerns the Simple Edit interface. When editing a News Item Asset Type using the Simple Edit interface, the WYSIWYG editor does not expand with the text. ie. if you have 20-30 lines of text, the text will cascade out of the WYSIWYG editor and spill out into the contents of the rest of the page. If this is confusing, I have attached some screen shots that hopefully illustrate the problem.

Note, this problem only occurs in Internet Explorer. Using Firefox, the WYSIWYG editor behaves correctly & will add a scroll bar as soon as the text gets too long for the WYSIWYG editor body. Also, I have only tested the News Item asset so not sure if it occurs for other assets (Simple Page, Single Calendar Event etc.)

This problem exists over multiple sites so I'm not sure if our CSS stylesheets are to blame. It is a very frustrating problem that is causing difficulty for many of our content authors. Simply using Firefox is not a solution (although I wish it was) as most of our content authors are not tech-savvy and will only stick to IE as it is the default browser in our company…

Hey there,

under System configuration -> Global Preferences there is an option on how to display the WYSIWYG in IE - as a div or an iFrame. This might fix your problem.

Edit: Spelling mistake

could be a stylesheet issue. ie, overwriting styles that freak IE out

Hi - I changed this setting but it made no difference. I will look at our stylesheets again - what stylesheet element is most likely to affect the way the WYSIWYG editor displays??

This could be a number of issues which include CSS and JS. In our usual assessment of such issues we would create a blank design (ie; MySource body element only) and apply it to a clone of the asset, in order to eliminate design factors. Then these can be reintroduced one at a time to determine the cause.
