We have our URL's set up as redirect pages. www.dca.wa.gov.au/resources/links
I have a couple of problems that I need asssistance with…
I need to have a redirect page display with a message whenever a URL is clicked . On the redirect page I have found this option. I have a design applied ( it is applied to the whole site) but I'm not sure if or how I apply a design or paint layout to the redirect page. Can you help please?
Redirect Timeout
If this is set to greater than zero, the redirect will automatically occur only after this time period (in seconds) has expired. This allows you to, for example, display a message through a paint layout or design and implement a 'redirecting you in XX seconds' feature. If this is set to 0 (zero, default), then it will redirect immediately. Note that this has no effect when the New Window option is turned on and a design is applied.
We have applied this method of using a redirect page for all url's used in the site as it is easier to maintain links, however, some users have experienced problems with opening links from our site. MAC users especially cannot open the page. Can you let me know why please?

For more information on how to show a redirect message, you can refer to the Creating a Redirect Timeout Using Paint Layouts section in the MySource Matrix Other CMS Assets manual.
For 1. you need to use a paint layout as well. The paint layout is where the contents are defined because a redirect page has no content of its own.
EDIT: See Deborah's answer.
For 2. I have no idea. I use a Mac and have never had any problems. Do you have any more info?
Are these pages set to open in a new window? Does the Mac browser have pop-up blocking on?
Browsers like Safari will block pop-up windows, so if you use the open in new window option, it won't work well, as the pop-up blocker will block the javascript for this.
I have had non-Mac users make complaints about redirect pages not doing anything (mine don't open in a new window). I suspect it is some kind of javascript setting on the user's end but that is just a guess…
It definitely sounds like a popup blocker drama. I've seen this happen sometimes when demonstrating it with training.
Lots of popup blockers tend to be more forgiving of a popup you triggered yourself by clicking. Using the method described in the manual, I'd be inclined to set a very long timeout, and just show them the message about how you're about to leave, with a link saying 'Click here to continue'. You could also put a target on the new link to make it a plain new window instead of a JS new window, which sometimes helps with blockers.
