If I put a redirect asset in Safe Edit mode, update the link, save it, approve it and then set a future status for it to go live, then even before the asset is live, anyone not logged into the CMS using this redirect will be taken to the updated link instead of the original link. This is unexpected behaviour. Seems to be a bug, but I haven't found any reference to it on Bug Tracker.

Hi,
I couldn't see the above issue happening on my local system. what the version of Matrix you are using?
The asset should redirect to the old link until the asset is changed to LIVE status provided the user doesn;t have write access to this asset.
Ash
We're using v4.0.3. I tested this after I'd made the changes in a browser that I wasn't logged into. We don't have Write permissions for Public User.
In fact, having just tested it again, even keeping the redirect in Safe Edit mode still links to the updated link for users not logged in, and just to complicate it even further, when I cancel Safe Edit, it doesn't revert to the old link!

Okie Just got my hands on a V4.0.3 Matrix. I couldn't see the issue you mentioned happening on the either. Are you doing something that's not obvious? I don't have any workflow applied and all the status changes and editing is done by Root User. The user viewing frontend of the asset is Public user.
Ash
Hi Ash, are you actually updating the location details ie. the URL or asset id? (see attchment) This is the problem area. If I merely change the Page name in Safe Edit mode, then it doesn't appear to a Public User. The problem is specifically centred on changing the Location. Could you verify that you have tested changing the location?

I am not using safe edit for redirect page, but I noticed the header redirect is cached by our proxy server. Maybe it's your case?
I would say that there is no caching going on because if I make a location edit to a redirect asset in Safe Edit mode and save it, then a Public User viewing the frontend sees that straight away, no delay. I have checked this and my colleague has also verified that this happens when he test this same scenario.

Hi,
What I was changing is the URL. basically from http://www.google.com to http://www.yahoo.com. But I can surely replicate the issue if I am dealing with assetid box. The public user can see the updated asset even while the reditrect page is still in safe edit. Surely a bug. Thanks for being patient and explaining the issue. We will surely look into it soon. As a work around what you can do is use the URL of the traget asset rather than picking up the assetid(if that works).
Regards,
Ash
Using a URL instead and keeping the redirect in Safe Edit mode results in a Public User being taken to a blank page, so you might want to look into that as well.

Hmm, strange. but it might be something to do with permissions or something. The URL bit works as expected but both Matrix and external URLs for me on a 4.0.3 system.
