Restricted content login

Hi all this might seem like a strange question, but until now our website had only public information for users (no need to login).

I have been asked to setup contributative newsletter where only certain number of registered users can view and comment on topic (sort of like a private blog)

I need to create section of our site that is off limits to public viewers but has a login/password box to access extra content In Matrix that would be creating users (not backend users) there is no registration as it is a finite number of users and they already have they details.

My question: Is login password box the same as system login/password? Is there Matrix Design area for that? Once people logged in will they see under constraction elements in ((…))? Is there difference between bulk mail users and users? am I making any sense ? :frowning:

Any one has any examples before I call Squiz? I just can't get my head around it

Hi Eric,

Your questions are all good and make sense

The login box is a System Design provided with Matrix and is the same when accessing a page that requires authentication. This can be customised by assigning a new "System Defined Login Design" from the Settings screen of the top-level asset, if you would like this to have a different appearance for your newsletter section.

Under Construction elements will be shown with double brackets when logged in, presuming the user has Read Permission to view those assets. As standard Matrix User assets are to be used, a Simple Edit interface will be required to allow content to be posted or modified.

Bulkmail Users are not system accounts but rather used to manage a name-to-email association for Bulkmail. Other user accounts have varying levels of access to Matrix.

Denying "Public User" read permission at the top level of your section and granting access to the User Group/s containing your authorised users is a good start. Please consult our Matrix Documentation with regards to permissions and let us know how you get on.

Edit: Depending on your requirements, an implementation using "Comment" assets might be sufficient instead of requiring a Simple Edit Layout.

I am confused I have setup bulk mail subscription and it works however I am puzzled as to how people that subscribed to a newsletter can manage they subscriptions as you pointed out they are not users and that means they can't login into the system. I am looking at the manual and it looks like it assumes that subscribers are users on a system.

Help?

Each user would need to be represented by Matrix User account to be able to log in and contribute content. The email subscription would be managed from a Bulkmail Subscribe Page which would reside underneath the protected area. Bulkmail can be sent to non-Bulkmail User accounts as long as an email address is assigned to the account.

Edit: Added last sentence

Ok, I am not looking at contribution through simple edit interface at this stage as I am going to take comment/asset builder approach.

but it got me thinking, I have setup newslettrer subscription in a different part of the site no login necessary

Example here bottom of the page how would the subscribers remove themselves from here? They are not users?

You can set up a bulk mail subscriber page and set it to unsubscribe, that way, the bulkmail users can remove themselves.
